Eligibility Requirements
- VA Enrollment: Veterans must be enrolled in the VA health care system.
- Medical Need: A doctor or medical team must determine that the veteran has a serious illness with a projected life expectancy of six months or less if the condition follows its normal course. Eligibility can be extended if the health condition persists after reassessment.
- No Copays: Hospice care provided directly by the VA—or through a provider contracted by the VA—is offered without copayments to eligible veterans.
