Three States Offering Stimulus Payments in 2025

Even though the days of federal stimulus checks seem to be over, some U.S. states are stepping up to provide their residents with financial relief in 2025. These measures are intended to help people cope with the ongoing issues of rising costs and inflation.

Here’s a breakdown of the states that are set to send out stimulus payments:

New York

Governor Kathy Hochul has initiated the first New York State Inflation Rebate. Under this plan, self-employed individuals earning up to $150,000 per year could receive $300.

Couples filing jointly with incomes up to $300,000 could get $500. New York plans to send these relief funds to over 8 million people as part of the 2026 fiscal year budget.

The checks started being mailed in late April 2025 and will continue throughout May.

California

California is set to send another round of stimulus checks. Eligible households could receive up to $725, based on their income and family size.

To qualify, residents must meet certain income requirements, be legal residents of California, have recently filed a state tax return, and not have received money from earlier phases of the Golden State Stimulus program.

The payments will be made via direct deposit or mailed checks for those without bank information on file.

Colorado

Thanks to a $1.5 billion budget surplus under Colorado's Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR), more stimulus checks will be distributed in 2025. Single taxpayers may receive up to $800, while married couples filing jointly might get up to $1,600.

This financial boost aims to increase residents' spending power and stimulate the local economy. Colorado will issue these payments through direct deposit, paper checks, or prepaid debit cards.

These targeted initiatives by states like New York, California, and Colorado are designed to continue providing necessary financial support to residents as the U.S. economy seeks stability in a post-pandemic world.
